MATTHEWS — Battling until the final buzzer Thursday, the Richmond Senior High School boys’ basketball team came up just short of advancing in the playoffs.
The No. 9 Raiders traveled to No. 8 Weddington High School and gave the Warriors a good run, but fell 70-60 in the second round playoff game.
Richmond led early on after a pair of three-pointers from junior Chance Crowder, but Weddington retook the lead and the Raiders never recovered.
It was the final game for four seniors – Jayden Hamilton, Yusaun Harrison, Amer Morrison and Domonic Tillman.
Morrison finished with a team-high 17 points and scored all but two of those points in the second half. Hamilton had eight points and Tillman scored four points.
Crowder was the other double-digit scorer with 14 points, of which 11 points were scored in the first quarter.
