ROBBINS — One of the better pitching matchups so far this summer went one run the wrong way for the Hamlet American Legion baseball team Tuesday.
Starting Area 3 Conference play against North Moore Post 12, Hamlet lost a 2-1 nailbiter.
Despite starting pitcher Jason Walker pitching a complete game and allowing just two earned runs on three hits with seven Ks, Hamlet couldn’t produce many runs off opposing starter Austin Patterson.
Caden Nolan drove in the team’s lone run with a two-out single in the top of the fourth inning. That scored Evan Hodges, who had the team’s first hit of the game the at-bat before.
