HAMLET — In its fourth try this season, the Hamlet American Legion baseball team earned its first win over a conference opponent Thursday.
Post 49 defeated Area 3 Conference foe Chatham County Post 292 by a final score of 11-1 in sixth innings.
Riley Brown pitched a complete game and gave up just one earned run on three hits with six Ks. He also ended the game with an RBI single to right in the sixth.
John Carre connected for two hits, two RBI and scored two runs. Hamlet scored three runs in the third and added four runs in both the fifth and sixth frames.

Hamlet (3-5, 1-3 Area 3) will play at The North Carolina Leadership Academy in Kernersville Friday in a conference game against Lexington Post 8. The game will start at 7 p.m.
