HAMLET — Opening a two-game series with Chatham Post 305 Thursday, the Hamlet Post 49 American Legion baseball team came up a run shy.
Playing at Memorial Park, the 49ers dropped a 2-1 decision.
Hamlet took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Colton Nelson slashed an RBI single to right field. Scoring was Miken Concepcion, who was courtesy running for catcher Evan Hodges (single).
Chatham scored a run in the top of the third inning to tie the game and scored once more in the top of the sixth.
Caden Nolan pitched 6.1 innings for Hamlet and allowed two unearned runs with eight strikeouts.

Hamlet (1-2, 1-2 Area 3) will play at Chatham Post 305 Friday at 7 p.m. The game will be played at Jordan Matthews High School.
