HAMLET — A two-day tryout period for the Hamlet American Legion senior baseball team wrapped up Tuesday.
It was the first couple of looks at the 2026 team, as well as the first go around for newly named head coach Eric Brown and his staff.
Joining Brown this summer will be assistant coaches Ryan Mercer and Kevin Wallace.
Participating in the tryouts at Richmond Senior High School, a total of 17 players auditioned for a spot on the senior team over the two days.
Of those players, 14 were either current or former Richmond Raider players. Rounding out the tryout roster were a couple of Scotland County players and one from Hoke County.
Prior to Tuesday’s senior team tryout, the Hamlet Post 49 junior team held its second day of tryouts. That team will be coached by Landon Cowick and Anthony Hailey.
The 49ers will open their conference-only season schedule June 3.
The Richmond Observer will continue its preseason coverage of Hamlet Post 49 and publish a season preview soon.
