ROCKINGHAM — A busy night on Richmond Senior High School’s campus Tuesday took a few moments to recognize some very real and true influencers.
The Raider baseball team held its third annual Teacher Appreciation Night ahead of its game against Overhills High School, a tradition started when head coach Eric Brown took over the program during the 2024 season.
Selected by this year’s five seniors — Jake Veach, Colton Brown, Maddox Locklear, Caden Nolan and Evan Hodges — each teacher was picked for his or her impact on the seniors in the classroom.
Representing elementary through high school grades, as well as RSHS and Richmond Community College, each teacher was escorted onto the field by his or her respective senior player.
Teachers also wore a Raiders t-shirt jersey given to them by the senior players.
Veach selected Jordan Fortune (RSHS), Brown chose Michael Fairley (RCC, retired), Locklear walked with Kemp McSween (RSHS), Nolan recognized Christine Haber (Washington Street School) and Hodges picked Alex Gardner (RSHS).
Public address announcer Patrick Hope thanked each teacher present, as well as all educators, for “everything you do for our students and for making a positive impact.”
The Richmond Observer will publish an article of Tuesday’s game soon.
