ROCKINGHAM — Fast footwork and precise ball control were the areas of focus for the Richmond Senior High School boys’ soccer team during Tuesday’s practice.
With the first match of the 2025 season less than a week away, the Raiders continued their preseason preparation under the instruction of eighth-year head coach Chris Larsen.
Since holding tryouts last week, Richmond has spent lots of time on the practice pitch, as well as seeing some live action against other teams.
The Raiders went 1-2 during a trio of scrimmages at West Cabarrus High School this past weekend.
Richmond faced the host school, as well as Mount Pleasant High School and Central Academy of Technology and Arts. The win was against Mount Pleasant.
On Friday, the varsity and junior varsity soccer teams will host Union Pines High School for a final tune-up of the preseason. The JV contest will start at 5:30 p.m. and be followed by the varsity match.
Richmond’s first matches of the year are slated for Tuesday, Aug. 12, at home against non-conference Lumberton High School (5:15 p.m. and 7 p.m.).
The Richmond Observer will publish a full season preview article, complete with video interviews and a season schedule, later this week.
