WILMINGTON — A fourth-quarter lead was undone for the Richmond Senior High School football team Friday.
Starting the season on the road at John T. Hoggard High School, the Raiders fell 28-21 to the Vikings.
Richmond led 6-0 early in the first quarter after a passing touchdown from Evan Hodges to Chance Crowder.
Trailing 14-7 midway through the third quarter, a pair of rushing scores by Ty Covington tied and then gave the Raiders a 21-14 lead.
Hoggard scored its final two touchdowns in the closing six minutes and stopped Richmond’s final drive with just over a minute to play on fourth down.
Shamir Jones had the only takeaway for the Raiders’ defense when he intercepted a pass on the drive before Covington’s second touchdown.
