ROCKINGHAM — A two-goal lead late in the first half didn’t hold up for the Richmond Senior High School boys’ soccer team Tuesday.
In a home match against Hoke County High School, the Raiders fell 3-2 in double overtime.
Richmond took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals by junior Phoenix Jacobs and senior Noah Gil in the ninth and 27th minutes, respectively.
Assisting Gil on his team-leading ninth goal of the season was junior teammate Memphis Jacobs.
Hoke County scored a goal in the 31st minute to cut Richmond’s halftime lead to 2-1.
A momentum shift in the second half saw the Bucks tie the match in the 66th minute, which led to two mandatory 10-minute overtime periods.
Hoke County scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 86th minute after Richmond failed to clear the ball out of its defensive zone.
