Richmond mercy-rules Yellow Jackets in season opener

ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior High School baseball team dotted the scoreboard Wednesday en route to a mercy-rule win.

Playing their first game of the season, the Raiders hosted Lee County High School and defeated the Yellow Jackets 10-0 in six innings.

Caden Nolan earned the win on the mound after five shutout innings and 14 Ks, and also led the team with three base hits. Tristan Chavis struck out two batters in his inning of work.

Julius Bowden drove in three runs batted in, including two RBI as part of a four-run first inning, and later the game-ending run.

The Raiders (1-0) host winless Scotland High School (0-1) Friday at 6 p.m.
