PEMBROKE — The Richmond Senior High School boys’ basketball team finished the Robeson County Shootout in second place.
Playing Lumberton High School for the tournament championship Saturday at UNC Pembroke, the Raiders fell short 78-71.
A slow start saw Richmond trail by double digits at halftime, and by as many as 31 points midway through the third quarter.
But a strong fourth quarter resulted in a 33-12 run by the Raiders, which cut their deficit to single digits. Head coach Donald Pettigrew said the team was playing for its “pride” in the final quarter.
Donovan Jones led the team with 16 points, all of which were scored in the second half. Cam’ron Coley and Amer Morrison both had 15 points.
After the game, Coley and Morrison were recognized as members of the All-Tournament team.
