ROCKINGHAM — Erasing a five-run deficit Saturday, the Richmond Senior High School baseball team walked it off in nine innings.
Thanks to a five-run bottom of the third inning, along with a walk-off wild pitch, the Raiders defeated Myers Park High School 6-5.
Junior Evan Hodges threw 6.1 innings of scoreless baseball to give Richmond a chance in the later innings.
Evening the score 5-5 in the third were RBI singles by junior Jake Veach, senior Landon Taylor and Hodges. Veach scored on a passed ball and senior courtesy runner Conner Phifer scored following two throwing errors.
In the bottom of the ninth frame, senior Jabari Douglas led off with a base hit back up the middle. After a series of bunts to move runners into scoring position, senior courtesy runner Jeremiah Ritter (running for Douglas) scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch.
Sophomore Drew Gause had a team-high three hits in the win, including a fielder’s choice single that extended the home half of the ninth.

Richmond (3-3, 1-1 Sandhills Athletic Conference) will travel to Pinecrest High School (3-2, 0-0 SAC) Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
