ROCKINGHAM — Friday’s inaugural Mid-South Conference football championship wasn’t even close.
The Richmond Raiders won the conference crown on Halloween night, steamrolling rival Pinecrest High School 58-27.
Starting the running clock in the third quarter, the Raiders secured their second straight conference title under head coach Brad Denson.
Senior quarterback Evan Hodges tied his single-game career-high with five passing scores. Senior wide receiver Amer Morrison caught three of them, a new single-game best for him.
Hauling in the other two touchdowns was senior wideout Jayden Hamilton. Junior running back Chance Crowder scored twice on the ground and sophomore Ty Covington added a rushing score and an interception.
Juniors Keviyon McManus and Konner Gardner each had a fumble recovery in the win.
The Raiders (8-2) are projected to get a bye in the first round of the NCHSAA 7A West playoffs. Brackets will be released Sunday.
The Richmond Observer will do a playoff preview when brackets are finalized.
