ROCKINGHAM — Friday’s playoff rematch looked promising for the Richmond Senior High School football team, especially in the first half.
But the Raiders weren’t able to sustain their 14-10 lead over Rolesville High School and lost 38-20.
Richmond scored the first 14 points of the game on a passing score by Evan Hodges to Chance Crowder, followed by a Crowder rushing score. The second touchdown was the result of a blocked punt by Ty Covington.
Before the half, Rolesville cut its deficit to four points thanks to a passing touchdown and a field goal.
Both teams scored to start the second half and Richmond regained a 20-17 lead after Keonta Pegues threw a trick play touchdown to Jayden Hamilton.
The rest of the scoring belonged to the Rams, who scored three more times, all on the ground.
Richmond (1-2) travels to non-conference Northwest Guilford High School (1-2) next Friday. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
