FAYETTEVILLE — Still searching for its first conference win of the season, the Richmond Senior High School girls’ soccer team wasn’t able to get it done Tuesday.
In a physical match on the road at Jack Britt High School, the Lady Raiders suffered a 2-0 loss in the Mid-South Conference contest.
A scoreless first half was undone by the Lady Buccaneers, who scored both of their goals in the second half.
Following a red card issued inside the final 20 minutes of regulation against a Jack Britt player, Richmond had the advantage of playing up a player.
Despite numbers in their favor, they couldn’t get their offense going and weren’t able to score.
“Tonight was another quality match against a physical team,” head coach Chris Larsen said. “Kenley (Smith) faced a lot of shots in goal and she made a lot of terrific saves that kept us in it.
“We had some chances to sneak a goal or two into the net tonight,” he added. “Especially with playing up the last 17 or 18 minutes. It was just one of those nights where we couldn’t connect.”
Continuing conference action later this week, the Lady Raiders (3-6-1, 0-2 MSC) will welcome Hoke County High School (5-2-2, 0-0-1 MSC) Friday at 7 p.m.
