KANNAPOLIS — For the second time in as many days, inclement weather impacted the Hamlet Junior American Legion baseball team.
The Junior 49ers were scheduled to start the Area 3 Conference playoffs Monday, but now they’ll have to wait at least another day to do so.
No. 8 Hamlet (5-7) was supposed to face No. 1 South Rowan Post 342 (12-3) at West Cabarrus High School, but storms throughout the evening postponed the game.
Head coach Anthony Hailey shared that the first round game of the tournament is expected to be made up Tuesday.
Because all games are being played at neutral sites, Hailey said a time and location has yet to be finalized at the time of publication.
Unlike the Senior Legion playoffs, the Junior teams are not playing best-of-three-games series. Instead, Junior teams will be split into winners and losers brackets depending on the outcome of games.
Teams will be eliminated from the playoffs following a double-elimination format.
With a win over South Rowan, Hamlet would advance to face the winner of No. 3 HiToms Post 87 and No. 6 Kannapolis Post 115 in the second round.
A loss to South Rowan would see the Junior 49ers take on the loser of No. 2 Mocksville Post 54 and No. 7 West Rowan Post 342.
