ROCKINGHAM — A local nightclub reportedly caused a commotion that led to the cops being called early Sunday morning.
According to Rockingham Police Chief George Gillenwater, officers responded to a report of shots being fired near the La Costra Nostra Lounge around 2:40 a.m. May 3.
The club is in the same shopping center as Harbor Freight, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet and Los Mariachis Mexican Bar & Grill.
Gillenwater said officers believe shots were fired in their direction after their arrival.
A video posted to social media appears to depict at least one shot being fired while police were already on scene.
The chief said that there were no reported injuries, however there was at least one bullet hole found across the road at Abundant Life Church.
Gillenwater said this is the fourth incident involving gunfire or violence since the club opened.
According to records with the N.C. Alcoholic Beverage Commission, the club was issued permits for malt beverages, unfortified wine and mixed drinks on Oct. 20, 2023. Gregory Wall is listed as the manager.
The case is still under investigation, Gillenwater said.
