Post 49 suffers loss to HiToms Post 87

Hamlet run-ruled 11-1 in 5 innings

HAMLET — A slow stretch of the summer slate continued for the Hamlet American Legion baseball team Sunday. 

Dropping its fifth straight game, Post 49 fell behind early at home against HiToms Post 87. 

The 49ers suffered an 11-1 loss in five innings.

Post 87 led 7-1 after two innings. Hamlet’s lone run came in the bottom of the first. 

A run in the fourth and three more in the fifth by the visitors ended the game early. 

Jayden Hollingsworth (Hoke County) was credited with a run batted in for Hamlet when he drew a bases-loaded walk. Scoring was Miken Concepcion (Christ the Cornerstone Academy), who singled, one of Hamlet’s three hits in the game. 

Other players to record a base hit were Caden Nolan (Belmont Abbey College) and Bradley Hogan (Christ the Cornerstone Academy). 

Nolan started on the mound for Post 49, lasting one inning. He allowed seven runs (six earned) on six hits and had one strikeout. 

Colton Nelson (Richmond) pitched three innings of relief. He held Post 87 to one earned run on four hits. 

Tossing the final inning was Tristan Chavis (Richmond), who gave up three runs (two earned) on a hit. 

Hamlet (2-7, 2-7 Area 3 Conference) plays at home Monday against Moore County Post 12. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
