HOFFMAN — A foul ball was found late last week at Morrison Correctional Institution.

According to Brad Deen, a spokesman for the N.C. Department of Public Safety, staff at the prison found a drug-filled football between the inner and outer fence the morning of Friday, Sept. 24, while prisoners were in the yard.

The spokesman said the ball was likely thrown over the fence by someone on the outside.

The football was reportedly stuffed with tobacco, marijuana and a tennis ball. Inside the smaller ball: methamphetamine.

Deen said the intended recipient was not in possession and no charges have been filed.

The incident is still under investigation.

“To prevent throwovers, we've raised several facilities' fencing and installed netting,” Deen said.
