Pour for a Paw Fundraiser Big Boost for Humane Society

ROCKINGHAM - An enjoyable evening of great food and wines, entertainment by the amazing Paula Carlson, the opportunity to make new friends, as well as donate to a very worthy cause—all of this was on the agenda for the Humane Society of Richmond County on Saturday night, May 12, at Ella’s Ballroom at 503 Rockingham Road in Rockingham, NC at Pour for a Paw.

A crowd of well over 100 supporters of our local Humane Society shared pictures and stories of animal rescues, their pets and fosters, “fur babies” of the present and past, and their common love for animals that need financial support from Richmond County to increase the numbers of dogs and cats that can be spayed or neutered.

Pam and Walter Easterling are the generous couple that donated the venue of Ella’s Ballroom for the event. What a beautiful spot nestled in downtown Rockingham! This is certainly a place to keep in mind for family and class reunions, weddings, and other groups that need a special place to gather in our community.

Additional sponsors were The City of Rockingham, Dieffenbach, Richmond County Sport Cycles, and Alfredson’s Import.

A delicious Italian-style buffet was served, featuring lasagna, fettuccine Alfredo, spaghetti, penne pasta, tossed salad and Italian dressing, shredded Parmesan cheese, bread sticks, brownies, water,  and sweet tea. A variety of wines and beer were also available for purchase.

A “wine pull” was an additional fundraiser at Pour for a Paw, with tasty bottles of white or red wines available, some with gift cards and other donated prizes from community businesses and supporters. Pennie Allen of Hamlet was one of the big winners, receiving a huge basket full of wines and other prizes.

Ms. Allen is an animal lover and has four rescue dogs currently. She had to have an electrical fence installed around her back yard to prevent them from digging out, but said it was worth it to keep them safe. She has loved animals all her life and has been involved in rescue and fostering for many years. Pennie’s great-nephew, Seth Allen of the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce, and great-niece Emily, were also in attendance.

Kenisha Crouch and Hannah Marks are rescue coordinators for the RC Humane Society and received special recognition. They provide a multitude of services, ranging from bottle feeding to posting online information about available dogs and cats at the facility itself, as well as transporting the pets to their new homes. These two young ladies also serve as members of the Board of Directors.

Other board members in attendance were Jessie Covington, Brandy Alfredson, Corey Davis, and Wendi Herndon.

The Humane Society of Richmond County is accepting donations at this time of dog and cat food, cat litter, blankets, and cleaning supplies, as well as monetary donations, which can be dropped off at the facility located at 529 US Highway 74 West in Rockingham.

Volunteers are also needed, and welcomed, at the Humane Society.  You can call them at (910)895-0335 for more information.

Hours of operation are 12 noon until 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 12 until 5 p.m. on Saturday.
