WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump signed the Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act(H.R. 1864) into law, which was co-sponsored by Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09).
“We never should have had to address this issue. That so-called businesses would seek to profit off of human trafficking, and exploit antiquated laws to shield themselves from legal responsibility, is incredibly disturbing,” said Congressman Pittenger. “This landmark legislation will enable law enforcement personnel and victims to take action against websites that facilitate and enable human trafficking.”
The Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (H.R. 1864) allows states and victims to file criminal and civil actions against websites that violate federal sex trafficking laws, and specifically states the intent of Congress to not provide legal protection for this evil behavior.
H.R. 1864 was introduced by Congresswoman Ann Wagner (MO-02) on April 3, 2017 and was co-sponsored by Congressman Pittenger.
