ROCKINGHAM — Summer football is just around the corner and in anticipation of it, the Richmond Senior High School football program released its scrimmage schedule this week.
The Raiders and second-year head coach Brad Denson spent two weeks in the middle of May conditioning during spring practice, which was a tune-up for summer workouts.
In addition to preparing ahead of the first official day of the season, which is July 30, the Raiders have four summer events scheduled.
The first will be a return to The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for the King of the Hill 7-on-7 tournament. Richmond hasn’t competed in the event the last several years, and will report to UNC for the tournament June 19.
The other three events planned are all 7-on-7 scrimmages and lineman challenges on Richmond’s own practice fields.
Hosting Cape Fear, Cheraw, Chesterfield, E.E. Smith and Forest Hills high schools, Richmond’s first home event will be June 26.
Following that will be another round of scrimmages and challenges July 10 against Cheraw, Chesterfield, Lumberton, Montgomery Central and Union Pines high schools.
The summer’s final competition is slated for July 17, as the Raiders will welcome in Cheraw, E.E. Smith and Union Pines.
Each of the three home 7-on-7s will begin at 10 a.m. on Richmond’s practice fields.
Associate head coach Greg Williams, who puts together the summer scrimmage schedule, said “There was a lot of interest for this summer. We’ll have some old timers that have come in the past, and a few new faces.”
All 7-on-7 events are open to the public and free to attend. Denson encouraged local football fans to make time in their schedule to see how the program has progressed ahead of the 2025 season.
