ROCKINGHAM — Week 3 of the high school football season didn’t end the way the Richmond Raiders wanted, but several players were recognized for their efforts.

Richmond hosted Rolesville High School in a playoff rematch, and despite holding a halftime lead, lost 38-20.

At the end of Monday’s practice, head coach Brad Denson called up the team’s “Players of the Week.”

This week, however, there were more than the five usual players chosen for the five categories — offense, defense, special teams, practice and weight room.

Earning the recognition were:

Offense: Jamaury Jones, Tyler McKenzie, Robert Monroe, Daylyn Robinson and Kamel Tillman (starting offensive line)

Defense: Jermaine Bright (senior linebacker)

Special Teams: Jason Gainey (senior defensive end)

Practice: Keviyon McManus (junior wide receiver)

Weight Room: Esaias Brunson (senior defensive lineman)

The entire starting offensive line shared the praise by the coaching staff, as well as the others, all of whom were picked during the staff’s weekly meeting.

Denson said, “Huge thanks to Top Guns for honoring the request for the whole offensive line to receive a shirt.”

There to present the players with a Top Guns Strength and Performance Gym t-shirt were owners Rex and Jill Crouch, along with their daughter Taylor.

Richmond (1-2) plays at non-conference Northwest Guilford High School (1-2) Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Richmond Observer will publish a preview article later this week.
