ROCKINGHAM — To close the regular season, the Richmond Raider football program named its Players of the Week Tuesday.
The Raiders convincingly won the inaugural Mid-South Conference championship Friday over Pinecrest High School, using a running clock en route to a 58-27 victory.
Called before the team at the end of practice were key contributors from the game and the week of preparation.
Head coach Brad Denson and the coaching staff selected:
Offense: Chance Crowder (junior running back)
Defense: Jermaine Bright (senior linebacker)
Special Teams: CJ Covington (sophomore cornerback)
Practice: Evan Hodges (senior quarterback)
Weight Room: Zamarion Robinson (senior linebacker)
Crowder rushed nine times and picked up 156 yards on the ground, a single-game career-high. He added two scores, which brought his season total to 13 rushing touchdowns.
Bright, who leads the Raiders with 112 total tackles, recorded eight tackles in the win. He had four solos, four assists and one tackle-for-loss.
Hodges, a self-described “film junky,” helped the team prepare and it paid off for him. He tied his single-game career-high of five passing scores.
Setting new personal bests in single-game completion percentage and passing yards, Hodges completed 75% (12-for-16) for 378 yards.
Each player received a t-shirt from Jill Crouch of Top Guns Strength and Performance Gym.
The No. 6 Raiders (8-2) are on a playoff bye this week and will host the winner of No. 11 Porter Ridge/No. 22 Cuthbertson on Nov. 14.
