ROCKINGHAM — The second week of the high school football season ended with the Richmond Raiders’ first win.
Although it was a team effort to battle past Scotland High School 36-21, five players were recognized as the team’s “Players of the Week” after Monday’s practice.
Voted on by head coach Brad Denson and the rest of the coaching staff, three players represented one of three categories — offense, practice and weight room — and two players were chosen for their defensive efforts.
Recognized for their contributions against the Scots were:
Offense: Daylyn Robinson (senior offensive tackle)
Defense: Preston Fann (senior linebacker)
Defense: Shamir Jones (junior defensive back)
Practice: Keith Cummings (junior linebacker)
Weight Room: Tyler McKenzie (senior offensive lineman)
Sponsoring the Players of the Week was Top Guns Strength and Performance Gym. Owners Rex and Jill Crouch, along with daughter Alley, greeted players and gave them t-shirts.
The Raiders (1-1) host Rolesville High School (0-2) Friday for a third round playoff rematch from last season. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
The Richmond Observer will publish a preview article later this week.
