SEVEN LAKES — The Richmond Senior High School boys’ golf team competed in its first full match Thursday.

Playing 18 holes at 7 Lakes Country Club, the Raiders made up a non-conference match with North Moore High School that was rained out earlier this spring.

Richmond finished second of the two teams, posting a team score of 377. The top four scores of the five Raiders competing were combined for the team score.

The Mustangs posted a team score of 333. Leading the field was the Mustangs’ Brady Preslar (73).

Unlike Sandhills Athletic Conference matches, a set lineup was in place for the Raiders, meaning only those five golfers could contribute to the team score.

Representing Richmond in the lineup were senior Landon Summerlin, junior Kevin Tabacolde, sophomores Grayson Robson and CJ Turner, and freshman Drake Wallace.

Also on the course Thursday playing an exhibition match were seniors Maddox Leviner and Tyler McKenzie, along with junior Austin Rainwater.

"For our first 18-hole match of the season, I thought we played well,” head coach Keith Parsons said. “CJ and Kevin led us, as usual, and it was good for them to see some players from outside our conference. North Moore has a solid program. And Grayson hung in there all day and had some impressive shots.

"Impressed with Tyler, Drake, Landon, Maddox and Austin, who played their first high school matches. They all battled through and posted respectable scores.”

Turner shot an 84 and finished third in the field, followed by Tabacolde’s round score of 90 (fifth place). Robson shot a 96 (ninth place), and Wallace (107) and Summerlin (108) rounded out the top five golfers.

Even though his score didn’t contribute to the team’s overall performance, McKenzie impressed with a 99 in his first high school match. Leviner finished with a 119 and Rainwater posted a 121.

The Raiders were scheduled to play an18-hole match Monday at Bayonet at Puppy Creek, but due to inclement weather, the Sandhills Athletic Conference match was postponed.

That match will now be played Tuesday at 2 p.m. Richmond will host its home match at Foxfire Resort, a nine-hole contest, April 15 at 3 p.m.
