Raiders claim top team spot at Bear Invitational

Ingram, Pegues, Surgent each win 1 event

HOPE MILLS — The Richmond Senior High School boys’ track and field team brought home a lot of hardware over the weekend.

Competing in the Bear Invitational Saturday at Gray’s Creek High School, the Raiders used the late-season meet as a final tune-up for this week’s conference championship.

Richmond won the meet, defeating more than 50 other teams to take the top spot.

The Raiders recorded a total of 143 points, finishing ahead of the host Bears and their second-place total of 128.5 points.

Three Raiders – seniors Christian Surgent and Keonta Pegues, along with junior Elijah Ingram – earned a win in their respective events. The 4x100 and 4x200-meter relay teams capped Richmond’s five-win effort.

The Raiders, as well as the Lady Raiders, will compete in the Mid-South Conference championship meet Wednesday at Pinecrest High School. Events will start at 4:30 p.m.
