ROCKINGHAM – The Richmond Senior High School boys golf team will play host to the SAC schools at Deercroft Golf Club in Wagram, N.C., on Monday at 1 p.m.

Raider freshman Jonathan Rich has been consistently leading the team throughout the first three matches with impressive scores of 83, 80 and 83.  Only one freshman in the SAC, Pinecrest High School’s Colin Dutton, has outshot Rich this season.

Teammates Carter Richardson, Jacob Puckett, and Evin Mabe are the only other three Raiders to have played in all three matches this season.

Richardson started the season with a 98 at Bayonet at Puppy Creek in Raeford.  In the second match, he found success at Gates Four in Fayetteville shooting an 84 before struggling at Pine Crest in Lumberton finishing with a 103.

On the season, Puckett is trailing Richardson’s total score of 285 by one stroke, but his individual match scores have been a little more consistent.  He has shot 92 (Bayonet), 96 (Gates Four), and 98 (Pine Crest) this season netting 286 swings.

Mabe’s scores have been a little high, but his totals are gradually moving in the right direction.  He kicked off the season with a 106 at Bayonet before dropping his score to 101 at Gates Four in week two.  He finished with a 100 at Pine Crest before the Easter break.

Also teeing off for the Raiders this season have been Jordan Lambert, Evan McFayden, and Cordell Nelson who have all participated in at least one of the three matches this season.

With three matches left in the season, the Raiders are currently in fifth place with 13 conference points narrowly trailing rival Scotland High School, which is in fourth with 15.  Points are awarded to the teams based on their finish in each individual match.

Pinecrest has won all three matches earning 24 points (eight per match).  Purnell Swett is in second place with 21 points, and Jack Britt is third with 17.  Hoke and Lumberton have nine and six points, respectively.  Seventy-First has two individual participants, and does not have enough players to join the team race.

Following Monday’s match at Deercroft, the Raiders will return to Gates Four on April 16 before finishing the season at Pinehurst on April 23.
