Raiders, Lady Raiders place 3rd at conference meet

SOUTHERN PINES — A change in location didn’t stop the Richmond Senior High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams from competing Thursday.

Changed from Scotland High School to Pinecrest High School due to track conditions, the Raiders and Lady Raiders competed in their third Sandhills Athletic Conference meet of the season.

Facing Pinecrest, Scotland and Lee County High School, both of Richmond’s teams placed third. The Lady Raiders earned 33 points and the Raiders scored 27 points.

Winning the meet were the Patriots (82 points) and the Lady Patriots (65 points) of Pinecrest.

Senior Amariah Gibson recorded two victories, the Lady Raiders’ only two wins, with a pair of season-best times in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. She ran the races in 12.67 seconds and 26.10 seconds, respectively.

Sophomore Alijah Flowers had two of the Raiders’ four victories in the meet. Also posting season-best times, Flowers won the 110-meter hurdles (17.30 seconds) and the 300-meter hurdles (43.51 seconds).

The Raiders’ other two victories came in the discus and shot put events. Sophomore Jeremiah Covington won the discus with a mark of 109’-1” and fellow sophomore Elijah Ingram set a new season long with a throw of 45’-10” in the shot put.

Earning second place in their respective events for the Lady Raiders were freshman Duraysia McDonald (400-meter dash, 1:07.22), junior Ka’mora Watkins (triple jump, 34’-2”) and freshman Zarriahnna Ray (shot put, 34’-2”). 

The 4x100-meter relay team (51.29 seconds, season-best) and the 4x200-meter relay team (1:50.85) each took second place.

Third-place finishers for the Lady Raiders included senior Anayjah Dumas (100-meter hurdles, 18.62 seconds), freshman Chrislynn Culley (300-meter hurdles, 55.40 seconds), Watkins (long jump, 15’-10”), freshman Tanaja Harrison (triple jump, 32’-0”), freshman Glenisha Thomas (shot put, 32’-1”) and the 4x400-meter relay team (4:44.92).

Second-place finishers for the Raiders were junior Jordan Hamilton (discus, 105’-8”) and the 4x400-meter relay team (3:38.40, season best). Richmond’s only third-place result was in the triple jump, which saw freshman Ikema Smith land at 37’-8”.
