RAEFORD — Competing at an invitational over the weekend, the Richmond Senior High School boys’ track and field team had several impressive finishes.
The Raiders, along with the Lady Raiders, battled a large field of competitors at the 6th annual Kathy McMillan Inviatitational.
Hosted by Hoke County High School, a total of 19 teams competed in the boys’ meet. Recording 30 points, the Raiders placed seventh overall.
Winning the meet were the host Bucks, who tallied 80.75 points. Second place went to Pine Forest High School (68.75 points) and third place was Seventy-First High School (67 points).
The Raiders registered 11 finishes in the top 10 of a variety of events, but their best result was in the 4x100-meter relay. Richmond won that event with a time of 43.22 seconds, nearly a half-second faster than Hoke County (43.65 seconds).
Senior Aaron Coleman and junior Amer Morrison were both responsible for Richmond’s two second-place times.
Running in the 110-meter hurdles, Coleman crossed the finish line in 14.94 seconds, just behind winner Jeremiah Faison of NC Flight Club (14.48 seconds).
Morrison was quick in his half lap around the track in the open 200-meter dash, clocking in at 22.58 seconds. Winning the event was Rahkeem Faison (NC Flight Club) in 21.50 seconds.
Richmond’s final two top-five performances belonged to Morrison and junior Christian Surgent. In the 200-dash, Surgent ran the race in 23.26 seconds, and Morrison was fifth in the open 400-meter dash (52.62 seconds).
The Raiders will travel to Hoke County Thursday for a meet before spring break. Events will start at 5 p.m.
