HAMLET — Multiple railroad crossings are expected to be temporarily closed next month across three counties.
CSX Transportation recently announced a track maintenance project, which includes the installation of new railroad ties, scheduled to begin on Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, according to Angela Nelis, chief operations officer for Southern Commercial Development.
Nelis said the three-week project will span from Hamlet to Pembroke, affecting travel in Richmond, Scotland and Robeson counties.
“CSX will have two tie teams working on the project,” Nelis said in an email. “My understanding is one team will start in Hamlet, working south, and the second team will start in Pembroke working north.”
Each crossing, she said, is expected to be closed for two to five days, “depending on the type of maintenance they are set to receive.”
The first affected crossing in Richmond County will be at City Dump Road, behind Ray Shankle Home Sales. The next, tentatively scheduled for closure on Feb. 18, will be on Grace Chapel Church Road, south of the bypass.
The next two closings are across the line in Scotland County on Joes Creek Road and Guinns Mill Road, just west of Old Hundred.
“These dates are highly subject to change with or without notice simply due to many of the unforeseen circumstances that can occur in the field once the work begins,” Nelis said.

The project is expected to be complete by March 6.
