Range Rover Strikes Stranded Vehicle on Pee Dee River Bridge; Driver Injured

Rockingham - The driver of a Range Rover was transported to Moore Regional Hospital with serous injuries when her vehicle struck another one that was stranded on the Pee Dee River bridge between Richmond and Anson Counties.

The vehicle that was stranded in the highway was a green Chevrolet SUV.

The accident occurred Thursday night at approximately 9:47 p.m.

The driver of the stranded vehicle stated that the drive shaft had broken and the vehicle was stalled in the line of traffic.

Prior to the accident, all of the passengers in the stalled car (the driver, a female, and two children) had exited; they were all safely on the side of the highway when their car was struck.

He also said that he had just finished calling a wrecker service to tow the vehicle when it was struck.

The driver of the other vehicle had two caged cats in the rear of her SUV.  Neither animal was harmed and both were were taken by a Richmond County Animal Control officer to wait for family members to arrive from Charlotte.

Agencies responding: Cordova Fire/Rescue, First Health Richmond EMS, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The Highway Patrol was investigating the accident.
