RCSO: Anson County murder suspect located in reported stolen car during traffic stop in Rockingham

Posted

ROCKINGHAM — An early afternoon traffic stop spawned by a camera capture reportedly led to the recovery of a stolen car and the apprehension of a murder suspect.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, the stop was initiated after deputies received an alert from the Flock Safety camera near Richmond Community College that a car reported stolen in Anson County had passed by.

The car was stopped on U.S. 74 Bus. in front of the new Queen City Homestore (former Badcock Home Furniture) around 1:15 p.m. — temporarily pausing the start of the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

At one point officers had guns drawn on two occupants who stood at the rear of the car.

RCSO investigators say one of the occupants was a murder suspect in Anson County.

The Anson County Sheriff’s Office plans to issue a press release Thursday morning.

At 9 p.m., there appeared to be no defendants listed in online records for the Richmond or Anson county jails on charges related to the traffic stop who were booked on Wednesday.

The RO will have more information as it becomes available.
