ROCKINGHAM — A newborn baby was found near the railroad tracks in East Rockingham Thursday afternoon.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, the Emergency Communications Center received a call around 2 p.m. from someone saying they had found a baby next to the tracks between South Street and 9th Avenue Aleo.
Deputies and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and found the infant deceased, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators are reportedly “intensely” working to track down leads. No other information is being released at this time, according to the sheriff’s office.
