ROCKINGHAM — A South Carolina man was reportedly caught with weed and a weapon after fleeing from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
According to an arrest warrant, 22-year-old Nyshawn Jermaine Miles, of Wallace, South Carolina, fled from a detective on U.S. 1 South, exceeding the speed limit by 15 mph — with a revoked license — on June 29.
At the time, the detective was investigating illegal narcotics and weapons sales, the warrant states.
Miles reportedly was in possession of 62 grams (2.18 ounces) of marijuana, a set of scales, and an “AR-15 style” .300 Blackout rifle with a barrel length of approximately 7 inches.
He was arrested and charged with: fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle; possession of a weapon of mass destruction; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Miles was also cited for failing to stop at a stop sign or flashing red light, driving the wrong way on a dual lane, and unsafe lane changing.
Jail records show Miles being held without bond. However, court records show he was given a $50,000 secured bond. Records are conflicting as to if his court date is July 3 or 10.
Court records show Miles has pending charges from the Rockingham Police Department of possession of up to 1.5 ounces of marijuana and carrying a concealed gun from April.
Miles is also charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction, and drug possession in Cabarrus County; as well as speeding — 90 mph in a 55 mph zone — and reckless driving to endanger in Mecklenburg County.
South Carolina court records show Miles has several pending charges from 2024 in Horry County: possession, concealing, selling or disposing of a stolen vehicle with a value of $10,000 or more; possession or making implements capable of being used in crime; resisting or assaulting an officer; possession of a controlled substance; unlawfully placing a child at risk of or causing harm or willfully abandoning the child; assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature; selling or delivering a stolen pistol; and three counts of failing to stop for a blue light.
Miles pleaded guilty in 2021 to possession of an ounce or less of marijuana in Chesterfield County. He had been charged in 2022 with two counts of attempted murder and other charges in Marlboro County, but the cases were dropped.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
