HAMLET — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has charged two people related to an investigation into the possession and sales of narcotics.

According to the sheriff’s office, investigators with the Community Impact Team and deputies with the Special Response Team executed a search warrant Wednesday morning at home on N.C. 38, south of Hamlet.

During the search, investigators reportedly found 1.66 grams of fentanyl along with scales “with residue” and baggies.

The residents, 28-year-old William Ethan Garner and 25-year-old Jameson Claire Garner, were both arrested.

Each is charged with one felony count of possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver fentanyl, and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance; as well as a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

William Garner is being held in the Richmond County Jail on a $20,000 secured bond, Jameson Garner on a $15,000 secured bond. They are scheduled to appear in court Feb. 12.

Records show William Garner is currently on 18 months of probation following a conviction in November 2025 on two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

That conviction stems from a 2024 arrest when investigators had reportedly found cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine at his home. Court records show the other charges were dismissed per a plea agreement.

He was also convicted in 2024 of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Court records show Jameson Garner has several pending traffic citations.

She also had several drug charges previously dismissed, however she was convicted in 2024 of cruelty to animals, records show.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
