ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a woman who was found unresponsive on a roadside over the weekend.

According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy arrived at the scene on Aleo 9th Avenue around 6:20 p.m. Feb. 28 to find personnel with Richmond County Rescue performing CPR on 45-year-old Toni Michelle Ransom of Fair Bluff.

Investigators say Ransom had no pulse and was not breathing.

Crews from FirstHealth EMS arrived a short time later and performed life-saving measures for about 20 minutes, according to the sheriff's office.

Investigators believe Ransom had been walking down the road, had “some kind of episode,” and became unresponsive.

Ransom’s body has been sent to the medical examiner’s office in Raleigh for an autopsy.

As of March 3, the death was still under investigation.
