DOBBINS HEIGHTS — A woman with no prior criminal history is charged with murder in connection to a recent homicide.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Eddie “Tank” Brooks Thomas Jr. was shot Wednesday, June 4 at 103 Rose Street in Dobbins Heights. Investigators say the victim subsequently died from his injuries.
No other information has been made available.
Janaydia Nyshamique Tender, 26, of Hamlet, was arrested Thursday and charged with an open count of muder. She is being held without bond in the Richmond County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court July 3.
"The investigation into this tragic event is ongoing, and we are committed to pursuing justice as additional arrests may be forthcoming,” Chief Investigator Mitchell Watson said in a press release. “We will keep you updated as the investigation progresses."
Sheriff Mark Gulledge said detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division “have demonstrated unwavering dedication and worked tirelessly since the onset of this incident, ensuring a thorough and comprehensive investigation."
According to the sheriff’s office, the Rockingham Police Department’s K-9 Division and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation have both assisted in the case.
Online court records show Tender doesn’t have any other pending charges and has never been charged with a criminal offense, only traffic infractions.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
