ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has charged a man in connection to the theft of HVAC systems from a church and a business earlier this month.
One warrant alleges that 23-year-old Curtis Daniel Hicks stole the HVAC system from Sound Doctrine Fellowship Church and sold the metals to a local scrapyard for $63.75. The offense date is listed as May 2-9.
Hicks is also accused of stealing the HVAC system from a Family Dollar Store and being in possession of the property from May 6-11.
Both HVAC systems are valued at $12,000 each, according to the warrants.
Both warrants were issued May 11 and Hicks was arrested the following day and charged with: two counts of injury to property to obtain nonferrous metals; two counts of felony larceny; two counts of possession of stolen goods or property; and one count each of conspiracy to obtain property by false pretenses and obtaining property by false pretenses.
(NOTE: It does not appear that the alleged co-conspirator has been served at the time of writing.)
Hicks is being held in the Richmond County Jail on a combined $150,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court May 28.
Online court records show Hicks has pending charges of larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and misdemeanor larceny, as well as several pending traffic citations.
In addition to the other pending charges, records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Hicks is currently serving a 12-month suspended sentence following a January conviction for damage to property.
Records show Hicks also has the following prior convictions: felony breaking and entering; two counts of misdemeanor larceny; injury to personal property; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
