ROCKINGHAM — A man charged with meth possession last month is accused of running from deputies Monday morning.

Gary Brent Jenks, 41, was arrested without warrant on a charge of possession of methamphetamine Dec. 15, 2024, records show.

Jenks was given a $5,000 secured bond, however records show he failed to appear in court Jan. 2 and the judge issued an order for arrest.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Jenks was arrested by a deputy on Monday, Jan. 6, but Jenks pulled away and ran — while still handcuffed — and escaped.

Online court records show Jenks was convicted Monday of assault on a female, taking a plea deal for time served, and had been arrested the same day as the meth charge.

Jenks was reportedly found Tuesday hiding underneath his home on Waters Avenue, west of Rockingham. According to a warrant, Jenks refused to come out.

Once he was arrested, Jenks was charged with a felony count of flight or escape and two misdemeanor counts of resisting a public officer. Jenks is also charged with misdemeanor larceny and injury to personal property for allegedly stealing and damaging the handcuffs.

Records show Jenks was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance on jail premises, however the document was not viewable online.

Jenks is being held in the Richmond County Jail on a $10,000 secured bond for the original charge and without bond on the charges from the past two days. He has court appearances scheduled for Jan. 15 and16, as well as March 30.

Records appear to show Jenks has no other prior convictions in North Carolina.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
