ROCKINGHAM — A previously convicted felon is facing drug and weapons charges following the execution of a search warrant by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, the warrant for the S. Brookwood Avenue home was obtained following an investigation by the Community Impact Team into the sale of illegal narcotics.
The warrant was executed Dec. 1 by the RCSO’s Community Impact Team, Special Response Team and Criminal Investigation Division.
Investigators reportedly found: 23.6 grams of crack cocaine; 433.4 grams (15.28 ounces) of marijuana; digital scales with residue; plastic baggies; and a stolen Ruger SR1911.
A release from the sheriff’s office mentions eight assorted firearms, including the stolen Ruger, but none of the others are detailed in arrest warrants. However, a photo of the seized evidence appears to show several rifles.
Investigators charged 43-year-old Jason Donnell McDonald with: possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver cocaine; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver marijuana; maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance; possession of a stolen firearm; possession of a firearm by a felon; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
McDonald was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond, however records show his bail was posted just before 6 p.m. He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 11.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show McDonald was convicted in 2002 of selling a Schedule II controlled substance, and the following year of robbery with a dangerous weapon, serving 37 months behind bars.
McDonald also has the following prior convictions:
2011 - simple assault
2014 - selling a Schedule VI controlled substance, assault on an officer or state employee
2016 - driving while impaired
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
