ELLERBE — A suspect was reportedly wounded Thursday evening after being shot by deputies.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received an alert from a Flock Safety camera regarding a wanted individual.
A Facebook post on the RCSO page does not name the suspect, nor state what he or she was wanted for.
Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect attempted to evade them, according to the post, which doesn’t mention where the chase started, but indicates that it ended on U.S. 220 Business, north of Ellerbe.
The suspect reportedly “produced a firearm, prompting the deputies to discharge their weapons.” Investigators say the suspect was transported to a trauma center by FirstHealth EMS.
No deputies were injured, according to the sheriff’s office.
Hamlet Fire and Rescue, Ellerbe Rescue and the N.C. State Highway Patrol assisted with the case, the post states.
The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to assist.
The RO will have more information as it becomes available.
