ELLERBE — A Volunteer State sex offender has been apprehended by deputies in Richmond County.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies with the Strategic Response Team and the Sex Offender Compliance investigator arrested 46-year-old William Boyd Roberts on charges of failing to register as a sex offender in Marion County, Tennessee.
Roberts was reportedly arrested in the Ellerbe area May 6.
According to the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry, Roberts was convicted in 2001 of taking indecent liberties with a minor, and was listed as an absconder.
Roberts has been convicted of registry violations four times since 2011, in addition to various other crimes ranging from vandalism to aggravated assault on an officer to simple assault and public intoxication.
He is being held, awaiting extradition, in the Richmond County Jail on a $100,000 secured bond.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
