Register of Deeds announces fraud detection service

ROCKINGHAM — Richmond County Register of Deeds Kim Roberts recently announced a free fraud detection service.

According to Roberts, the Fraud Detection System — powered by Courthouse Computer Systems — is “designed to notify individuals if a document is verified in Richmond County under any names or corporation names submitted to be monitored.”

Roberts said larger counties are having an issue with individuals stealing property but she wasn’t aware of any situations locally.

Signing up for the service won’t protect residents from fraud, she said, but “will let you know” if documents are filed under your name “so you can take action.”

She said the program, which started about a month ago, is primarily focused on the elderly and those with a lot of property.

Residents can sign up at RichmondROD.net.

Anyone with questions can contact the Register of Deeds office at 910-997-8250 or email Roberts at kimberly.roberts@richmondnc.com.
