ROCKINGHAM — Following its most successful season in the last decade, the Richmond Senior High School baseball program is ready to pass that knowledge and experience onto local youth players.

Part of a jam-packed summer of development camps hosted by the school’s athletic department, the Raiders and head coach Eric Brown will spend the first couple weeks of June hosting two separate camps.

Returning to the diamond for the third straight summer since Brown became Richmond’s head coach, both camps will feature three days of morning sessions.

Opening with their Middle School camp, the Raiders will welcome rising sixth to rising eighth graders Wednesday, June 3, through Friday, June 5.

The following week, Richmond’s Little Raiders camp is scheduled for Monday, June 8, through Wednesday, June 10. Campers who are rising first to rising fifth graders can attend.

Both camps will operate daily from 8:30 a.m. through 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be served to all campers on the final day of each respective camp.

The cost per camper this summer is $75. Payment can be cash or check and be paid at the school, or can be made online (with an additional $4.25 processing fee).

Registration is currently open for both camps, which will be held at Raider Field on Richmond’s campus. Those who register and pay before May 25 are guaranteed a camp t-shirt.

During last year’s camps, the Raiders hosted 70 local athletes. Hoping to grow participation this year, Brown said each camp will be geared toward players’ skill level, understanding of the game and involve a lot of fun.

“Our first priority is to make this an enjoyable experience for all of our campers,” Brown said. “Depending on which camp they attend, campers can expect to learn the fundamentals or build upon them.

“This is always a treat for our program to host and give back to the community,” he added. “No matter what skill level a camper may be, we will work with him to get him better at the game. We really try to tailor our instruction to each camper’s understanding of the game.”

Brown added that many of Richmond’s varsity and junior varsity players from this past season will be on hand to help coach campers.
