ROCKINGHAM — A Cumberland County man is heading for a Richmond County courtroom after allegedly stealing from a retail store at knifepoint.

According to court documents, 28-year-old Travonte De Leon Walker, of Fayetteville, put various electronics items in a cart at the Rockingham Walmart on July 7 and headed for the door.

An arrest warrant lists the value of the unspecified items at $792.69. However, the incident report from the Rockingham Police Department only lists a Lenovo 22-inch touchscreen desktop computer valued at $539.

When two employees tried to stop him, Walker “presented a knife in their direction and stated, ‘I’m taking this stuff,’” and left the store, according to the incident report.

Walker was arrested July 9 without incident and booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond, charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

Online court records show Walker had a court appearance scheduled for Wednesday in Cumberland County on two felony counts each of larceny and possession of stolen goods or property.

Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Walker has no prior convictions in this state.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
