Republican candidate list set for November ballot in race for Richmond County Board of Commissioners

All incumbent school board members reelected

ROCKINGHAM — Two incumbents and two challengers from the Republican party will be on the November ballot for the Richmond County Board of Commissioners, according to unofficial election results.

Records with the Richmond County Board of Elections show Commissioners Jason Gainey and Justin Dawkins, as well as challenger Laverne Schultz, each secured more than 1,100 votes during Tuesday’s Republican primary.

Terry Lewis received the fourth-highest number of votes (845), winning the final slot on the ballot over Commissioner Robin Roberts (788) and fellow challengers Jesse McQueen (697), Richard Robinson (531), James Daniels (405), Melissa Schoonover (172), and Tyrannia “Smackie” Ellerbe (74).

Dawkins, Gainey, Schultz and Lewis will face Democrat challengers Linda Ross and Cameron Wright in November.

(NOTE: The RO will check with the BOE later to determine the status of the unaffiliated candidates.)

In the race for the Richmond County Board of Education, all four incumbents were reelected: Daryl Mason (2,726); Bobbie Sue Ormsby (2,659); Cory Satterfield (2,571); and Scotty Baldwin (2,479).

Challengers Amber Daniels and Charles “Chuck” Dulin received 1,683 and 1,452 votes, respectively.

Results for district, state and federal races are still being tallied. The RO will have more election results on Wednesday.

All results are unofficial until canvassing on Friday, March 13.
