Reversing a Birthday Celebration: Dunn to host community softball game at Ellerbe's Parsons Field

ELLERBE — Most of us celebrate our birthdays by receiving gifts instead of giving. This isn’t the case for Tiffany Dunn.

This year Dunn decided she wanted to do something different and meaningful for her 36th birthday.

She envisioned the idea of a community-wide fun day which includes a softball game. On Saturday, April 26, her vision will come to pass beginning at 2 p.m. at Parsons Field in Ellerbe.

Dunn is inviting the community to come and cheer the teams on, and to bring a glove to join in the game and enjoy the fun. Spectators will also need to bring a chair, as there are a limited number of bleachers.

There will be food trucks offering refreshments, some which will include Legacy Catering, Lux Cups and Scoops Ice. Divine Direction International Church Live will also provide refreshments, and all donations will go to the church.

Live music will be provided by DJ Roy G as well as entertainment by Stepping on the Necks.

Coaches for the games will be Branson Conyers and Amanda Robinson. Coordinators for the games are Tiffany Dunn, Pastor James Thomas, Carolina McLaughlin, Katina and Chloe Jordan, Marcia Cowick and Tasca Parker.

Dunn and her 5-year-old son are also known for reaching out to the Hermitage Retirement Center in Rockingham, taking goodies to the residents several times a year.

Dunn thanks everyone who is helping make the event happen.

“I want to thank Ellerbe Parks and Recreation, Chris McLaughlin for letting me celebrate my birthday on the field,” she said. “I’d also like to thank Carolina Southern Creations for making the T-shirts.”

Dunn’s motive for the event is to bring the community together for a day of fun, as Acts 20:35 states, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
