ROCKINGHAM — Wet weather expected over the next two days could turn white.
The National Weather Service is calling for a 50% chance of snow Thursday night.
However, forecasters at the NWS and a regional television station differ on how much accumulation Richmond County could see.
The forecast from the NWS predicts less than a half inch of snow after 9 p.m. following rain.
Brad Panovich of WCNC in Charlotte forecasts 1-3 inches of snow for Rockingham and Hoffman, as well as parts of Anson and Chesterfield counties and the northwest corner of the state. For all other areas of the western Piedmont, Panovich predicts a trace to 1 inch.
But before the snow: more rain.
Up to ¾ of an inch of rain is expected in the overnight hours and an additional ¼ inch during the day on Wednesday. There is also a chance of rain Wednesday night and Thursday prior to the projected snow.
There were social media reports of snow flurries in Richmond County on Feb. 8, as light snow fell in the Charlotte area and as far east as Albemarle.
Some residents are hoping for more than a dusting as Richmond County hasn't seen any snow accumulation since early 2018.
