ROCKINGHAM — After weeks of requests, additional charges have been filed against a man accused of shooting into the car of an Amazon delivery driver.
District Attorney Jamie Adams announced Friday that the defendant, Sidney Pittman, will be charged with two additional counts of attempted first-degree murder.
These charges are in addition to those already pending: one felony count of discharging a weapon into an occupied property; and a misdemeanor count of injury to personal property.
The decision reportedly was made after Adams reviewed the investigative file by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
“The lives of every person in our community are precious,” Adams said in a press release. “Senseless gun violence will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Tashika Trimble, of Ellerbe said she was delivering packages for Amazon with her teenage son on Dec. 14 when she mistakenly pulled into Pittman’s driveway on Jones Springs Church Road, east of the town. After realizing her mistake, Trimble said she made the delivery to the correct address and as she was leaving, Pittman shot into her car.
Pittman was arrested Dec. 15 and given a $200,000 secured bond. He was released on bail Dec. 18.
As of this writing, Pittman had not yet been served with the new charges.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Civil rights activist John C. Barnett has held two press conferences and a justice rally since just before Christmas. The most recent was on Jan. 7.
The RO will have more on that press conference later.
